Fret Not Thyself

Psalms 37:1: Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

Proverbs 24:19: Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked;

Psalms 37:7: Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

Resting in the Lord and fretting are polar opposites. The people we are not supposed to fret about are obviously enemies of God, evildoers, workers of iniquity, evil men, wicked and those that bring wicked devices to pass. I trust that most of you who are reading this are on the Lord*s side. I have read the end of the book. God is going to win and we are going to win.

1 John 4:4: Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

1 John 5:4: For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Fretting and fear are next of kin. They lead us to defeat. Evildoers seem to do very well and Satan wants to discourage us through them. God wants to ENCOURAGE us through His word and His people.

Matthew 10:28: And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Fretting can short-circuit our willingness and ability to serve the Lord. It is not a product of faith. Our flesh can fear the power that evildoers appear to have. Our flesh can be envious of what they have materially. If we look a little closer at what they have and what we believers have, we will not fret and our envy of them will be replaced by pity. They do not have the power to kill our souls and they do not have the power to do anything to us that God does not permit. Their power is temporary. Their wealth and positions are temporary. What they have is like a flimsy bubble that is going to burst suddenly.

Proverbs 6:12-15, 29:1: A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth. 13 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers; 14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord. 15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy. . . . 29:1 He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

Unless you have a hard heart, you will be praying for those evildoers instead of fretting or fearing them. If we have the Lord we have everything we need. He promises to meet every need, yesterday, today and forever. To our flesh the blessings we have seem to look like smaller bubbles. But when the Lord takes us to Heaven we will discover that our seemingly small bubbles are not small and they will be more durable than the hardest substances known to man.

Author Unknown: Worry does not prevent the problems of tomorrow, it steals the peace of today. It steals more than peace. It steals our usefulness to the Lord. Satan is the one that does not want us to be useful to the Lord. A Christian fretting for a moment is a victory for him.

This article hits me square between the eyes. There are a lot of evildoers that I fret about altogether too much. A moment of fretting is a moment of unbelief. Don*t fret. Pray.
